Be patient

We are experimenting with different backgrounds for our blog. There are things we are not happy with or that make them hard to navigate. If something does not work well for you, leave a comment and let us know. Also let us know what the background looked like at the time since we will be switching them around some.

My first museum trip

A Picasso sculpture

A Picasso sculpture

Today we went to the Nasher Sculpture Museum and the Crow Collection of Asian Art . We went with the Fankhausers, the Ramseys and the Villarreals. Some of the sculptures were really cool. I did pretty well but I decided to let everyone in the Nasher know I was there at one point.

You don’t see this every day

Lazy Squirrel

Lazy Squirrel

While eating lunch, Sam looked out the kitchen window and saw this squirrel on our neighbors fence. We thought it was pretty funny looking. His arms and legs were hanging off. I guess the metal was a little cooler than the 95 degree temperature since it was in the shade. We thought Hooligan would go crazy because she loves to chase squirrels but she never saw it. On a side note, Hooligan caught and killed a bird in our backyard yesterday - gross.

I loooooove this smile

One of my favorite things each day is when I go get Katherine out of her crib. She usually makes a little noise, but is quite happy playing and cooing in her crib. I get up and go in there to get her up, and when she sees me, she gives me the biggest smile of the day. I had to capture it with my camera. It is like she is saying, “Oh look, it’s my mommy. I’m so excited. She is getting me up. She must really love me.”

Another day at the Arbo

After Sam’s trip to Germany, he took two days off. So, we decided to have a fun relaxing day. We went to brunch at Barbec’s an old fashioned diner in our area where you expect to see Flo and Alice around the corner at any time. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio, forgetting that it would be the only place where people could smoke in the restaurant. The only other time I had eaten there was before Dallas had passed the no smoking ordinance and the whole restaurant was filled with smoke and the waitresses were smoking between serving customers.

After brunch we went to the Arboretum, our favorite place. It was a gorgeous day.

I have to brag

Nana's blanket

Nana's blanket

My mom (Nana) is very talented. She crochets. She has made doilies, ponchos and mainly baby blankets. I think she gave me my first baby blanket when Sam and I were married only a year and well before we were trying to get pregnant.

On Mother’s Day Katherine played on one of Nana’s blankets while we were talking before lunch. It sure is pretty.

Me, Katherine and Nana

Me, Katherine and Nana

Today was my first Mother’s Day. The best gift of all was that after a long and complicated journey, Sam safely arrived home from Germany last night. Katherine and I were very excited. I let him sleep in since he was experiencing serious jet lag. So, I went to church by myself. In a way it was nice not to have Katherine because I was actually able to focus on the message.

After church we went to mom and dad’s house for lunch. It was a nice low key get together.

I love being a mom. Katherine brings me such joy. Every day it is so much fun to see what she will do.

Hello!

town mascot?

town mascot?

On thing that really began to puzzle me last week was how everyone knew I speak English rather than German, even before I speak. I would walk into a restraunt and the waiter would either say “hello” or get this look of dreak on his face before trying to communicate with me in broken English. It made more sense to me when Christy & I came to Europe on vaction. I just assumed that we looked like tourists from our bags and camera, but that doesn’t fit on this trip. I don’t think I look very different than the locals. We have about the same skin color and hair color. I don’t think I walk differently or look around differently.

Sometimes people get it wrong and assume I speak German. I try to politely say that I don’t speak German, but I think we usually both end up feeling a little awkward. The funny part of this story, is that during my second week here in Freising, this awkward situation is happening all the time, even here in the hotel, where you think the staff might begin to recognize me!! The big difference — I haven’t shaved in a week!!!!

By the way, there are bears all over Freising! For some reason businesses paint a fiberglass bear like a sign and put it out front. Munich had Lions everywhere — you’ll see more when I post all my pics on our main website.

Now I am “bare-y” cute too!

Well, mom did it, she took the naked baby picture. It was Nana’s idea. I am so embarassed. This completes the “Very Cute” pun series.
