Life doesn't always fit neatly into fill-in-the-blank books, does it? Just write down what you observe ("Today I noticed you can sit up by yourself for 30 seconds") and go do it RIGHT NOW! Too many times I didn't write something down right away because I didn't know what day to write it on - or if the kid had officially accomplished that milestone or not. But I waited too long and by the time I got back around to it I couldn't remember what week (or even month) it was. I would rather have had something a day or two off than not written down at all. "Why don’t they define for you when you get to cross these milestones off your list?" Probably because if they did we'd be more tempted to focus on the milestones and getting the right ones marked off at the right time instead of focusing on our little one and just enjoying the process of them learning and getting to watch them grow up. I almost bought a baby calendar today that records stuff like that. I guess it's more of a time process... so I'm wondering if I should even get something like that as a keepsake. Hmmmm... Maybe you just count when you first noticed it? But if she still can't sit up unassisted, that makes it questionable. Tough call. I can see your dilemma here.
