A day in my life
Usually when Sam gets home from work, he asks me what I did that day. Here is my answer for last Thursday. Most of you will probably get bored reading about my day, but some of you other moms will identify. Sorry for all of the spaces between lines, I can’t get them to disappear.
4:44 am I wake up to Katherine crying so I go in to feed her. 5:00 Katherine is back in her crib, but Hooligan wants to go outside. I actually check my email while I wait for Hooligan to finish her business.5:04 I am back in bed.
5:40 I am still awake. This is the last time I remember looking at the clock. I usually fall right back to sleep after feeding Katherine so this is odd and very frustrating.
7:38 Sam wakes me up when he kisses me goodbye. He usually does not leave this early.
8:27 Katherine wakes up so I quickly go into the kitchen to grab the supplies to pump while I feed Katherine. I find her in her crib, happy, but somehow she got one foot our of her footed sleeper. Hmm - how did she do that? I feed her.
8:50 I get out of the shower. Katherine is still happy so I go to the other end of the house to make my breakfast, a bagel and Juice Plus+ protein shake. I also iron my shirt and Katherine’s outfit. This is not something I normally do, but the ruffles and bow on her outfit really needed it!
9:05 Katherine is still happy so I pack her diaper bag for the day. I am hoping to stop by the church today and while there I want to drop off a baby gift for Ryan and Amber. I gather the gift and put it in the bag, add tissues and card.
9:11 I go back to my room to get ready. Since I am not really interacting with Katherine much, I feel better by playing classical music. She is having fun on the floor exploring things with her feet. I realize at 9:21 that I will not be able to stop by the church this morning on the way to yoga.
9:24 It is time to change Katherine’s diaper but I realize that all her diapers are in the dryer so I went to get them and sort them out. I change her and got her ready for the day.
9:28 I hope to work out today so I packed my workout bag. The problem was my bag is packed for going to George and Shannon’s when they go into labor. So, I just stuffed it all into a shopping bag.
9:39 I put Katherine in her exersaucer so I could load up the car. She was NOT happy about this.
9:48 I finally leave to be somewhere at 10. What was I thinking when I planned to stop by church on the way. My next door neighbor was outside talking to the neighbor behind us so I stopped for a few minutes so they could oogle my baby.
10:10 After fighting traffic I arrive at Itsy Bitsy Yoga. Katherine enjoyed it more than last week. We do not have many weeks left since she is getting more mobile. Most of the babies are younger and once they start to crawl, it is difficult to get them to do the moves. We have really enjoyed Itsy Bitsy Yoga and will be sad when we have to stop.
11:20 We leave yoga and stop at Boston Market to get lunch. We are supposed to bring our own meat for the grill for playgroup, but Katherine has fallen asleep and I am too lazy to go into the grocery store. I decide that I will just get my own at the drive through. I talk to Kathy on the phone about plans this Saturday.
11:34 Arrive at playgroup at Lauren and Cole’s house. Heather and Quade, Amy and J.G., Jina and Elise and Kayla, Tracey and Jaden, and Courtney and Jacob were there. We ate lunch and played. Katherine is getting to where she interacts more with the other kids. She also sat with no assistance for over 5 minutes which is a huge improvement from yesterday. She ate twice while we were there.
2:08 Hop into the hot car and drive to Whole Foods. Katherine fell asleep.
2:12 Shop at Whole Foods for Organic sweet potatoes and avacados for Katherine. We plan to start solid foods this weekend.
2:25 Get back into the hot car and drive to my mom, Nana’s house.
2:31 Visit with mom for a little and leave Katherine.
2:46 Drive to Texins to work out. While in the car talk to Leah on the phone. Sadly she is still in Austin for work so we will not be able to go to dinner tonight. I was distracted while talking to her so I pulled into the wrong gate at TI. The guard had to tell me how to get to the health club.
2:58 I was so excited to get to work out this afternoon. This is something that has been hard to do now that I am a mom. For a long time I was not ready to leave Katherine in the kids room at Texins so I would have to find someone else to watch her. I left her there one time and she did not do so great. She cried a lot. She does much better at Nana’s though she often cries there too. Today I was able to do 35 minutes on the elliptical trainer, abs and legs. It felt great.
4:09 Drive back to mom’s 4:16 When I got to mom’s Katherine was crying. She has been fighting a real nap all day and she would not sleep in her crib at Nana’s house either. I fed her and that did the trick. Pop’s came home from work while we were there so all three of us played with Katherine and watched her sit up. 5:08 Leave mom’s house to go home – finally. While in the car I talked to Amy. We may get together tomorrow. Katherine finally takes her nap. 5:27 I got home and continued to talk to Amy. Katherine continued to sleep in her car seat. I multitasked and took care of the mail and the dog while on the phone. 5:37 I returned home to see that my computer had the mystery blue “physical dump” screen so I rebooted. While waiting, I listened to 7 new messages (only 1 other all week, what is up) and I talked to Sam.5:46 Katherine woke up crying but did not want her diaper changed so I continued looking at email with her on my lap. She is fascinated by all that is on my desk, but not by her toys. 5:59 Change Katherine’s diaper and feed her while on the phone.6:08 Talk to George about Shannon’s sonogram today and the fact that Peanut still is not here. When will that baby decide it is time to be born? We are all ready. The good news is that everything looks ok. The bad news is that the doctor said that they may have been off on their due dates and it could be awhile longer. 6:26 Katherine and I read our new Baby Einstein Animal Melodies book. It has buttons to push that play classical music. It fascinated Katherine. Thanks Nana. 6:33 I called my mother-in-law, Pam to ask her what pictures of Katherine she wants me to mail her. We catch up. I play with Katherine on the bed while we are talking.
6:53 Sam calls. He has just finished showing our rental house in Rowlett. All of the flyers had been taken and he wanted me to look up where a copy place in that area would be. I had a very frustrating time because for some reason our internet is not working well and not finding web pages.
7:16 I am hungry so I make dinner. Since I thought I was going to be eating with Leah, I did not have anything to make so I made scrambled eggs and pancakes. While I cooked, Katherine sat in her high chair and went back and forth between being happily entertained and being unhappy
7:40 I finally am able to eat. Yumm, I love having breakfast for dinner. Some of the best foods are breakfast foods and I am in too much of a hurry in the morning to fix them. I watch the Blue Man Group on PBS while I eat as I listen to a barking dog outside. Hooligan was outside because Katherine was on the floor playing.
7:51 Sam got home and we both played with Katherine. She sat up and we helped her to stay interested in all of her toys. She especially liked her yellow cube that quacks.
8:15 The phone rang and I answered it. It was a phone survey. I thought, “sure, why not”. These things usually just take 3-5 minutes. Not this one. It was about gas stations and convenience stores and it lasted 28 minutes! I kept thinking that surely it was about to be over. I even asked the girl at one point how much longer and she said she did not know. Liar!! I should have known that meant a really long time. While on the phone, I changed Katherine’s diaper, put her in her pajamas and nursed her one last time. Then I put her to bed because she fell asleep.
8:45 Finally I am able to go back to the office to work on some of my stuff without having a baby either on my lap or fussing. I wrote this blog entry.
