Comments on our life, mostly our daughter.

Can you interpret the picture?

Yep, Katherine has been fighting her first bug. Last weekend we thought it was allergies, but this week I have been sick and her friend Sammy has a cold too. So, we think it is a cold of some sort. It got better but has come back. She seems to feel fine during the day and acts normal. At night though she has a hard time with congestion. Thursday night she kept waking up so we put her to sleep in her car seat to keep her head elevated. Amazingly she slept for 6 hours. Friday night was much worse. I am sure part of the problem was that we got home really late. She could not fall asleep in her car seat or her crib because she was congested. So, I laid back on the bed in her room and she slept on my chest for about an hour before I moved her to her crib. I had to go back in several times in the night. I think she is doing better and tonight she went down in her crib with no problems.

You can see that her bathroom counter is full of all the stuff for her cold. We have the humidifier, two kinds of decongestant, nasal saline, thermometer, medicine droppers, bulb syringe and yes, that is a bottle of breastmilk. A friend told me this morning that it works much better than saline so we tried that. Katherine absolutely hates getting nose drops and especially the syringe. I feel like I need three hands, one to hold her hands away, one to hold her head still and one to use the syringe.

Pray that she is on the mend and gets better soon. If she is not well by Monday the nurse said to come in and see the doctor. I sure hate seeing her sick.

Not 1 or 2, but now 3

Yes, I continue to get braver. I decided that taking care of 2 kids was not enough, I need to take care of 3. I offered to take my niece Emily and nephew Nathan out of the house for a little field trip. I figured that with a new baby sister around they needed out of the house and Shannon and George could use a little time without the older two. So, I loaded them up into George’s minivan along with my own Katherine and headed to Northeast Mall.

When we got there I put them all three in the stroller and navigated through the mall to the play area, stopping first to get a snack. They had a lot of fun and I really enjoyed them. Katherine enjoyed crawling around too.

Rubber Ducky

This is my new favorite picture of Katherine. My friend Heather took it. We took a bunch of pictures with the rubber ducky and she kept trying to eat it. I love her big blue eyes.

There are a lot more pictures on our album.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies

Two kids for two days. Yikes. Kathy was out of town on business so I had Sammy Monday afternoon and all day Tuesday. Luckily Chad came and got him after work so I did not have him all night too. Katherine and Sammy are great friends and it has been so much fun to see them grow up together. He is two months older than she. As they have gotten older they have interacted more. This week they were so fun, exhausting, but fun. Sammy is crawling all over the place and pulling up on everything. As soon as he got here, he crawled toward Hooligans food and water bowl. Wow, I sure had to be on top of things. Katherine would get frustrated because he crawls about three times as fast as she scoots. They would wrestle a little, he would suck on her fingers and she on his toes. SHe even tried to eat his head! At the end of each day we were all worn out. Katherine sure slept well.

Check out the pictures on our album.

More peas please!

Filed under: Katherine's comments — Christy at 10:06 pm on Monday, September 11, 2006

This blog is dedicated to my Uncle Will who despises peas. He has a great story about upperclassmen at the Air Force Academy making him finish off a whole plate of peas.

Yesterday dad fed me peas for the first time mixed with rice cereal. I really liked it. Uncle Will, pease are not so bad. Mom fed me more today. I am doing better on my eating. Today I ate a whole bowl of peas and rice cereal, a third of a jar of banana baby food and about 2 tablespoons of fresh avacado from El Fenix (I ordered off the menu for the first time).

Mom has a new trick to get me to eat. Since we think I may be teething, I like to chew on the tray of my high chair. When I look up, my mouth is open and she gets a quick spoonful in. Mom is so tricky.

Katherine ready to party

Katherine ready to party

We have really enjoyed our Sunday school class, the Legacy class for almost four years. It started one week after we got home from our honeymoon. It has been a great blessing for us as we got involved in the lives of other young couples. We started as a group of couples who had been married a shor time and there were no kids yet. People have moved and new people have come. A BUNCH of kids have been born. It has been a great source of encouragement, fellowship, accountability and growth.

The church is moving in a new direction, focusing on small groups rather than Sunday school classes. So, Labor Day was the last day our class met. Now we are divided into four community groups. I won’t lie to you, this has been a hard change for us. We were very frustrated at first. I don’t like change and this has been such a huge part of our marriage that I hate to see it end. I think the thing that I am most sad about is that there are a number of couples that we will no longer see as often. We will continue our monthly pot luck and praise gatherings though. We are very excited about our new community group.

We had a cook out to celebrate the class. It was so fun as I watched all of the kids running around and all the adults fellowship and play volleyball.

It’s time…

Get me out of here!!

Get me out of here!!

to move the crib down a notch. Katherine woke up after less than a 30 minute nap. She was crying quite a bit, but I thought she should continue to sleep. Then her crying woke up Sammy in the other room. So, I went to get Sammy and my mom went to get Katherine. Mom found Katherine sitting on her knees, holding on to the rail, screaming. Look at how red her face is in less than five minutes of crying. So, Sam’s project for tonight is to lower the crib mattress so that Katherine can’t fall out.

A new bed

Filed under: Uncategorized — Christy at 8:06 pm on Sunday, September 10, 2006

Today we bought our first baby, Hooligan, a new bed. Her old bed has long since lost its cover and the bed is too big to fit in our washer. It is pretty nasty and since we are about to have a crawler we thought we should get a new one. I am sure Katherine will be trying to sit on Hooligan’s bed before long. At first Hooligan was not sure what to think about the new bed, but she decided she liked it.

Forward motion

Katherine is really trying to crawl. For a few weeks she has been on all fours, rocking back and forth, but she was not able to get anywhere. Now she is moving forward either by rocking and doing a belly flop or by doing the army crawl. It is exciting, but I am not really ready for a mobile baby yet either.

I am sorry we don’t have a video for you, but you can tell from the pictures that she has moved because the catepillar has changed positions.

One exciting thing she did today was sit herself up. She was on her tummy and rolled to her side and was struggling to push up. I was about to help her so she would know what to do when she sat up. She looked so proud of herself. She has not done it again, so it may have been a fluke.

This I like!

Looks so good!

Looks so good!

Mom wrote a blog about how I do not really like my baby food yet. Now who can blame me, have you seen that stuff. Afterall, she mixes rice cereal, sweet potatoes and avacado all together.

I am pretty smart and I see mommy and daddy eating some other food that looks pretty good. Tonight when we were working on the rental house in Rowlett, they ate bbq sandwiches from Dickey’s. I was fussy so daddy was holding me on his lap. What a golden opportunity. I kept reading for the sandwich and even managed to touch it a few times, but he would not let me put it in my mouth. Darn it!

I guess for now I will have to get better at baby food so that I can move on to better things like bbq.
