Finally, an eater!

Filed under: Katherine — Christy at 10:29 pm on Monday, April 16, 2007

It has been quite a struggle getting Katherine to eat. There have been days that I have been in tears at the end of a meal. It does not help that I put pressure on myself bcause I know she needs to eat more to gain weight.

This week she has been doing much better and today was a great eating day. For breakfast she finished off one jar of Earth’s Best Apple Oatmeal Yogurt, 1/4 of a bagel and 1/4 of a banana. She went to Mother’s Day Out today. I usually send twice as much food as I think she will eat so that they have a lot of options if she is being picky. When I picked her up, they said that she ate every single thing I sent. This included a large jar of Chicken Vegetable Soup, a jar of peas, applesauce, peaches, and 1/4 bagel. When we got home, she had the rest of her banana from lunch. For dinner she ate a full serving of homemade casserole consisting of carrot, onion, tomato, cheese and lentil, cottage cheese, cheese toast and peaches. This is the first time I have been able to get her to eat cheese! When I was eating dinner she had another snack of whole grain crackers and some of my pancake.

Let’s hope that this was not just an odd day, but a start of a huge growth spurt! Now, I need to keep working on her drinking milk. She still would rather play with her sippy cup than drink out of it.

Yeah for Katherine! E’s first year in Mother’s Day Out they sent home a sheet every week. On that sheet they had marked if she had eaten well that day or not and if she had taken a nap or not. It was MONTHS before we got a sheet with both marked as Yes. It was such a milestone that I saved that little sheet!

I failed the “get your kids to drink milk” mommy job. We wanted to teach our kids that water was the normal drink. They have juice and milk some, but it’s a treat and not the norm. Plus, I really don’t like cleaning milk out of sippy cup lids!

I know you are so relieved that she ate so much! And that is a lot of food! What a change - I hope she’ll continue. But you shouldn’t stress out - that was a huge lesson for me to learn. I absolutely cannot control what Andrew will or will not eat or how much he will eat. You’re doing great!

I hear you on the sippy cup lids Shannon. I would be happy if Katherine would drink water out of her sippy cup regularly. Especially with summer coming up. I do not want to have to nurse her every time she is thirsty.

Great news about the eating!! She is definitely eating more than Penelope right now. I totally understand your frustration when they won’t eat anything. That’s where we are right now…

BTW- We are water people too. Penelope has actually never had any milk. I wonder if she would even like it.

So glad to hear Katherine is eating well:)

Earth’s Best Apple Oatmeal Yogurt? I don’t think I’d eat that stuff either…

But seriously, we pray for you and Katherine and hope she grows and packs on the lbs soon!
