Technical Difficulties

Filed under: Uncategorized — Christy at 10:14 pm on Sunday, May 13, 2007

I have had several people email or tell me that they received their email about a post and then it was not on my blog. I am aware that two posts were lost as the server that hosts our blog was updated. My web hosting service (George) is looking into it and either those two posts and their comments will be restored or I will repost them later. Anyway, until I know everything is back to normal I will not post. Sorry for the disappointment for all of my faithful readers.

My mom’s blog

Filed under: Uncategorized — Christy at 9:51 pm on Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Uncle Will and Aunt Jaime brought this shirt to Katherine when they came to visit last week. It says, “My Mom’s Blog Is Better Than Your Mom’s Blog.” I thought it was pretty funny. It is a bit sassy. Really though, blogging is not a competition. I love reading everyone’s honest thoughts - sometimes funny and sometimes thought provoking-always fun.

Blogging has been a lot of fun for me. I have always kept a scrapbook but this is different. There is a lot more writing and journaling. This is a great way for me to keep track of Katherine’s first year (and now beyond). It is also a great way to allow friends and family to keep up to date on what we are up to as well.

When I started my blog, I knew a few other people who were into it. The main person was my college friend, Chrys. I started reading her blog and the blogs of her friends. Then it was weird when I would meet her friends and we already knew all about one another from reading our blogs. In our gym dandies class there are several of these virtual friends that I now know IRL (in real life). Check out the blogs of Chrys , Erin , Kirsten , Tara , Sundee , and Karla .

Now it is fun because in the last 2 months I have had a number of other friends who have started blogs. Finally, an epidemic! Check out the blogs of Amy , Lauren , Jen , Laura , Kim (in Africa) , Jill , Erin , Gretchen , Kim (in NYC) and Heather .

And if you are reading this and you do not yet have a blog, what are you waiting for?

Gym Dandies

Filed under: Katherine — Christy at 10:00 pm on Sunday, May 6, 2007

I have been reading about Gym Dandies on some friends blogs. I have been looking forward to the time that I could sign Katherine up. Well, we finally started this week. Katherine loved it! When we got there, we started with open gym time where the kids played with balls, on toys they could ride, matts and slides. At first Katherine was a little timid and stayed close but by the end, she did not even look back to see where I was standing.

Next we had circle time where we sang songs and played drums. After playing the drums, the kids were supposed to share by passing their instrument to the kid sitting next to them. Katherine thought it was great when Alex have her his toy but was not happy when she had to give her toy to the next kid. We will work more on sharing next week.

Last was parachute time. Katherine does not like getting on the parachute yet. She did like it when we went under it though. We had so much fun. I can’t wait to go next week.

Family Time

The Entire Family

Will, Jaime and Sophia came in town for dad’s surgery. It was great to have some family time while they were here. It was the first time that ll 8 of us had been together.

Of course we had to take a trip to El Fenix, a family tradition. Katherine decided to feed herself with a spoon. She tries this at home but always turns the spoon upside down so that teh contents spill out before it makes it to her mouth. Today at El Fenix she did great because refried beans stick to the spoon. Refried beans are not in her usual diet.

Get well Pops!

Please pray for my Pops. He had heart surgery this week (a bypass and valve replacement) and he is still in the hospital recovering. I went to go see him last night but do not get to go to the hospital a lot. Mommy thinks I am a little too active and into things. It is so exciting up there. All these big rooms with buttons to push and wires to pull. I went for a walk down the hall to visit all the nurses. They were glad that I was there. I also tried to go visit some of the other patients but mommy would not let me. Anyway, Pops will get to go home either Sunday or Monday and then I may get to go visit him again. Please pray for his recovery. It will be hard for him to rest and sit still since he is such an active man.

Happy Birthday Grammy

Today is my Grammy’s birthday. I did not get to see her because she does not live in town. I hope she had a great birthday and that she will come visit me soon. I love you Grammy,

Katherine

ps - Thank you for this cute outfit you gave me for Easter. I really like it.

A new record

Filed under: Uncategorized, Katherine — Christy at 9:34 pm on Friday, May 4, 2007

This week I have been very busy with family and dad’s surgery. Because of this, I have spent more time away from Katherine than usual. I really have missed my baby girl. She has done really well spending time at Mother’s Day Out and friends houses. One thing that has resulted from this week and time away from Katherine has been that we have set a new record for nursing. On Wednesday we went over 19 hours! I nursed her at 11 before her nap. Then I took her to a friends house. Sam picked her up after work and by the time I got home after Dad’s surgery, she was already asleep. She did not wake up until 6:45am. This was the first time that she went to bed without me having nursed her within the previous hour or two.

With this decrease in nursing, I am seeing an improvement in her eating but she is still not a huge kid. I weighed her two weeks ago and she weighed 17lb, 2 oz.

Can you believe it?

Highschool Outfit

I still have these items in my closet. I decided to clean out my closet because it is very full. I knew I had clothes from my more skinny pre-married days, my skinny pre-Katherine days, my maternity days, my post-partum days and now. There were easily 5 wardrobes. Some overlap but there are a lot of things in that closet that I don’t (or can’t) wear. It has been very frustrating as the seasons change because I can never find anything to wear even though there is a closet full of clothes. I have barely begun, cleaning out the pants, shorts and skirts on the lower left. What I found was embarassing. In that section I found one outfit that was from High School! I remember that I bought this outfit when I worked for a local store using my discount. At least it still fit! That made me feel pretty good. I also found a skirt from college. I even have a picture of me wearing it to a sorority date party. There is no telling what other kinds of out of date clothing I will find when I get a chance to finish the project.

Katherine’s first truck experience

I got a new DSLR camera in September for my birthday. It is really nice and can take great pictures. It could do so many things but I did not know how to do them. I compared it’s ability and it’s usage to if you had a Ferrari but only drove it up and down your driveway. I know that to get the intended use out of the camera I really needed to take some classes. So, I am taking a class at Richland Community College. It has really helped me to learn how to take better pictures. I know I still have a lot more to learn but I am improving.

This week we learned about light. We had an assignment to take several specific pictures.  So, as usual I loaded up the family and made an afternoon event out of my photo shoot. We went to White Rock and took Sam’s truck (don’t worry Katherine rode in the other car with me). We took the dog and had a picnic.

Here are my photos.
